2 min readHigh profile Akalite and a community leader based in South Africa Sir, Sydney Ik Okpoko has explained to Umuaka Times why he decided to become a Knight in the Catholic Church. Sir Okpoko who was ordained a Knight of Da Gama in far away Johannesburg South Africa last week, told Umuaka Times that he has so many reasons that made him seek knighthood in the Catholic Church. First among several reasons he listed was to propagate the work of God and what Christianity is all about to the world.
Another reason cited by Sir Okpoko was to make the world properly understand the teachings and foundation of Roman Catholic Church.”In today’s world, there are many churches who teach several doctrines and more but Roman Catholic as an old Church has been able to withstand shocks and attacks because the hand of God is with us. Having seen how the world of today is facing several crises, it has been my personal concern to seek how I can help the work of God to be elevated.”
On his state of mind after the ordination, Sir Okpoko told Umuaka Times that he now feels fulfilled and ready to offer his services as a Knight whenever the need arises. He used the opportunity to thank all those who came for the church service and the bishop of the Archdiocese and the priest of his parish also.
On the thanksgiving for the event, he told Umuaka Times that the time for the investiture will later be announced and celebrated.
Sir Okpoko is the president-general of Umuaka Aborigines in South Africa and he is also the vice president of Ultimate Royal Committee of Friends South Africa.
