Many people especially criminals have cashed into the opportunity brought upon by the widespread insecurity in Nigeria to commit various and heinous crimes. The criminal activities according to what Umuaka Times gathered, have got to the use of commercial tricycle otherwise known as keke maruwa to rub unsuspecting passengers of their valuables. This phase of robbery  has led many states government across the country to restrict the activities of commercial motorcycle operators and their tricycle counterparts in many capital cities across the country.

In Imo State, the use of okada and keke maruwa has been restricted from operating in the capital city Owerri due to several reports of armed robbers who use the mobility to harass innocent citizens and dispossess them of their valuables. Many capital cities across the country have also placed such bans in order to secure the cities better. This move Umuaka Times gathered, forced some of the operators of the commercial motorcycle business to relocate to other towns and villages.

The police have been compiling such reports and some of the criminals have been nabbed.

Last week, a woman from Jos Plateau state who boarded a keke was robbed and pushed out of the moving keke which had her crashing on the tarred road and sustaining severe injuries. According to the reports that emerged last week from several media outlets, the woman named Tamara Daspan sustained brain injuries from the accident which eventually resulted to her death. Tamara Daspan who happened to be one out of numerous cases of keke robbery was a graduate of University of Abuja. As at press time, last week, no clue has been established by the police on how to nap the keke maruwa criminals.

Just last week, Umuaka Times observed a heavy presence of keke operators in Afor Umuaka who ply several routes.  There has never been such an ugly report or development concerning robbing with keke in Umuaka but Umuaka Times wants to use this opportunity to draw the attention of stakeholders in the community to start having a record of keke and okada operators in the community.
