Akalites mourn as AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu’s death elicits tributes.

Umuaka community was thrown into mourning late Saturday night following the announcement of the death of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu psc, as reported by Umuaka Times. The news spread rapidly across social media, drawing an outpouring of condolences and tributes from prominent indigenes, traditional rulers and community leaders.

The passing of the senior officer, who headed Zone 9 Police Command covering Abia, Imo and Ebonyi States, has been widely described as a major loss to Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area and Imo State. AIG Uzuegbu died after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Prominent monarch, Eze Justin Ezeala of Obinwanne Umuaka, wrote: “This is so sad. Rest in peace, our AIG.”
His counterpart, Eze Victor Ijeoma of Isiozi Akah, described the loss in solemn terms: “What a news! An Iroko has fallen. So sad. May his good soul rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
Dr. Longy Agumba of Achara community said: “What a sad day and heartbreaking news for Njaba and indeed Imo State. We have lost a great man whose contributions and legacy will not be forgotten. Umuaka ndi nwem, ndo nu. May God grant his family, friends, and the entire community the strength to bear this painful loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Mazi Goddy Iwuoha, Chairman of Uba Umuaka Community, Lagos Branch, stated: “The journey is too short, nwanna, rest in peace.”
Chief Jude Ezeala, Legal Adviser of Obinwanne Umuaka, remarked: “Chai. Very sad. Rest in peace!”
Chief Celestine Agu, Onowu of Obinwanne, lamented: “Chai o kanyi si wee je? May God grant him eternal rest.”
Engineer Modestus Obioha of Obinwanne added: “What a terrible and a great loss. May his soul rest in peace.”
Engineer Amaechi Dikeocha, among the first to receive the news, wrote: “What a loss! May his soul rest in peace.”
Former Imo State Commissioner, Chief Louis Duru, prayed for the repose of his soul.
Dr. Uche Oguike wrote: “This is very sad and devastating. We have lost a star. I pray for his family and the loved ones he left behind. May his soul rest in peace.”
Dr. A.C. Oguamanam lamented: “This is a great loss! So sad. May God receive his soul in heaven. May his soul rest in peace.”
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Marcel Duru, said: “We have sadly lost a rare gem. The highest ranking police officer we ever produced. A police officer who was always guided by the rules, no matter how close you were to him. May his soul rest peacefully. My sincere condolences to the family, his friends and our community.”
Engineer Vice Onyemepu, who described the late AIG’s father as his godfather, expressed personal grief: “This is terrible. Death of AIG Zone 9, Kanayo Uzuegbu! His father was my Godfather. Never imagined that Umuaka would lose such a figure in this manner and at this peak of his career. I had always believed that when he retired, he might be more useful to Umuaka like other higher ranked retired officers. This is definitely a big loss to his family and Umuaka in general. May his soul rest in peace.”
Since the news broke late Saturday, reactions have continued to pour in across Umuaka’s digital platforms. Obeakpu community, the hometown of the deceased officer, remained sombre as residents mourned one of their most distinguished sons.
The Nigeria Police Force and stakeholders across the Southeast continue to receive condolences as the community prepares to bid farewell to AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu.
