Dr Stephen Duru bags an award from Marine Club of Nigeria.

An Amiyi born Akalite, entrepreneur and the Chief Executive Officer Stemarine and Technical International Limited, Dr Stephen Chidozie Duru has bagged a merit award from the Marine Club of Nigeria. Dr Duru who is a Port Harcourt based engineer, academic and businessman is a well known shipbuilding consultant whose services to the marine industry in Nigeria are very large.

The award named Icon of the Nigerian Maritime Economy NIME, was presented to Dr Duru in “recognition of his outstanding contributions to the health and growth of the Nigerian Maritime Economy NIME, in the 2020 to 2021 operational years.”


According to the statement Umuaka Times obtained from Dr Duru, the award was presented to him on December 8, 2022 during a program named, “State of the NIME and MCN Awards 2021.

It can be recalled that in 2020, Umuaka Times paid an official visit to the workshop of Dr Duru where he builds ships. During the visit, Umuaka Times established that Dr Duru is one of the top stakeholders in the whole of West Africa in the business of shipbuilding. For those who know him and his company Stemarine Limited very well, the award in question was long overdue.

Meanwhile from the day the award was presented to Dr Duru, many Akalites both in and outside Nigeria have been calling to congratulate him on the latest honour he just added. The celebration for the ward was not in any way limited to Akalites alone, top government officials, marine workers, fellow businessmen and others have been reaching out to him to register their support and happiness over the merit award.
