Family announces funeral rites for Sir Godson Chukudi Onyeche.

The family of the late Sir Godson Chukudi Onyeche of Uhu Alaowere, Umudim, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State has announced the funeral arrangements for their patriarch, father, uncle, brother and grandfather Sir G.C.Onyeche who passed away at the age of 92.

In a press statement Umuaka Times obtained from the family which was signed on behalf of the family by Mr. Chijioke Onyeche, the family expressed gratitude to God for the life of the deceased while announcing his passing with deep sorrow. Sir Godson Chukudi Onyeche was born in 1934 and died in 2026.

According to the funeral program, the body will leave the mortuary in a motorcade at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, for a brief stop-over at his Federal Housing Estate residence in Owerri. A commendation service will follow at 8:30 a.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Matthews, Atta, Ikeduru for the repose of his soul. By 9:30 a.m., the body will lie in state at his residence in Umudim, Ikeduru for family members, friends and a host of his former students from High School Umuaka etc to pay their last respect.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Umudim, Ikeduru, Imo State, after which interment will take place at his residence at 1:00 p.m.

A thanksgiving service in honour of the late Sir Onyeche will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Umudim, Ikeduru, Imo State.

The family has invited relatives, friends, associates and well-wishers to join them in celebrating the life and legacy of the late Sir Godson Chukudi Onyeche while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.

The late Chief G.C. Onyeche was a distinguished educator, accomplished administrator, and respected disciplinarian. As Principal of High School Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area, from 1977 to 1984, he was celebrated for his visionary leadership, insistence on discipline and academic excellence, and remarkable command of the English language. His years of service left an enduring legacy, and he is fondly remembered by former students, colleagues, and members of the community for his integrity, wisdom, and dedication to education.
