Oghu Duruorji Achara to set Umuaka agog on July 29.

Come Saturday July 29, 2023, the sons and daughters of Duruorji in Acharaji Umuaka Municipal Council of Njaba LGA will be celebrating the historic and highly entertaining oghu dance simply tagged Oghu Duruorji Abroad Union2023 edition. The oghu dance which was last held around 2010 is considered highly sacred due to long years that go by before the event is held. An Achara man who is now a chieftaincy title holder confirmed to Umuaka Times that he witnessed the event last around 1986.
When Umuaka Times, the official newspaper of the big cultural event of the year last week went to ascertain the state of preparations for the event in Achara community, it was observed that the kick-off time for the event will be 1 pm on Saturday July 29. The venue for the event according to what Umuaka Times gathered will be the famous village arena of Umuduruorji indigenes known as Amaocha Duruorji. A great oghu lover from the community described the famous Amaocha Duruoji as “the Umudiriorji Central Stadium.”
A statement Umuaka Times obtained from Chief Thomas Chinaka, the Eze-Ekulie 1, explained that the house member representing Njaba LGA in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Ozioma Ebonine Worship would be the guest of honour during the event. The royal father of the day will be HRH Eze Ken Uzoho, Achara 1 of Acharaji and the traditional ruler of Acharaji Autonomous Community, Njaba LGA. Others who worked for the successful planning and hosting of the event include Chief Anyaehie Metu who under his capacity as the coordinator of the event pulled a lot of strings to the success of the event. Chief Thomas Chinaka (Eze Ekulie) worked as the oghu committee chairman. He it was that briefed Umuaka Times about the event. Others are Chief Emeka Akamere (Akajiugo) and the chairman Duruorji Home and Abroad Union.
Oghu Duruorji from all indications has risen from its slumber and without being told, the event will not only go far but it will conquer milestones and victories in Imo cultural contests. Only time will tell for Oghu Duruorji.
